Bio

I was born in Bastrop, Louisiana, and spent most of my early years moving around the South with my Mom and Dad as my father was employed by International Paper Company.  It was IP and the hand of Providence that brought me to Mobile, AL, for the first time in 1985.

I spent a while in college trying figure out "what I wanted to be when I grew up."  As it turns out, sometimes we grow up faster than we figure out what we want to do with our lives.  It took me a while but a wise man (my next door neighbor) told me that I only had two choices: ministry or education.

I chose education because I wanted to make a positive impact on the lives of teenagers in Mobile County .. and, trust me, being a teacher is a ministry all unto itself.

Besides education, I have been a faithful member of West Mobile Baptist Church since my family joined the congregation in 1998.  At WMBC, I am an elder and lead a small group on campus on Sunday evenings. I have been at active deacon at WMBC for five years.

You may ask, "Why is that important to your job as a teacher?"  Well, quite frankly, it defines my calling to be an appropriate role model for this generation.  It means that my students and their parents can have an expectation that their students will not only be instructed while in my room, but also be nurtured, encouraged, and prayed for on a regular basis.

In short, I exist to give your student a safe, positive environment to learn to be the best student (and person) that they can possibly be in life.  I do not "preach" in my room, I try to let the examples of my life and character do that for me.

I appreciate you allowing me the privilege of knowing and teaching your child.  If you ever have any questions, please feel free to contact me at either dwlawrence@mcpss.com for more classroom information.
