Causey Middle School 8th grade Robotics teams competed against 7 other teams from central and southern Alabama in the FIRST Lego League Regional Qualifier in Birmingham, Alabama, on Saturday, January 28, 2017.  This was their first year to participate in the competition and they excelled.

Causey Middle School’s students were in 3 teams that competed in 4 missions: robot design, project, teamwork and core values, and robot game.  Mrs. Clements and her students have been preparing for this competition since the end of August.  The theme of this year’s event is Animal Allies.  Students have been thinking of people and animals as allies in the quest to make life better for everyone.  Sometimes people help animals and sometimes animals help people.  The team’s project mission this season was to improve interactions between animals and people.  Teamwork and FIRST Lego League’s Core Values encouraged the students to work together as teams and encourage everyone involved to be the best they can be.  Students also designed and engineered a robots that navigate through the Animal Allies game board and complete missions.  Robots had to be structured in such a way that attachments could be added or removed when necessary and sleek enough to maneuver through a crowded game field.

Causey Tigerbot Team C won the award for Best Robot Design.  Tigerbot Team A won the award for Best Overall Project.  Mrs. Ame Clements won the outstanding Coach Award.  Tigerbot Team A is advancing to the state competition in Huntsville, Alabama, on March 4, 2017.

Causey Middle School is the only school in Mobile County chosen to compete at the state level, and their teams walked away with 3 top honors.  What an accomplishment for their first competition!  Go, Tigerbots!
